Title: £1.9 million settlement - highest ever UK award for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

Amount: £1.9 million full liability value - 20 September 2013

A motorcyclist injured in 2008 has settled her Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) case for £1.9 million on a full liability basis, the UK’s highest ever compensation awarded in such a case.
Biker Nerys Pearce was represented by Andrew Campbell of Bikelawyer Motorcycle Accident Solicitors.

Her initially modest injuries led to the onset of CRPS. The condition rendered the Claimant wheelchair reliant since 2009. The majority of the settlement will be spent on future care, accommodation and loss of earnings.

After a reduction for agreed contributory negligence the net award was over £1.4 million.

Commenting on the case, her solicitor, Andrew Campbell, said “This was a heavily contested and difficult case but I am delighted with the outcome which will enable my client to have a future free of financial concern.”

A spokesman for the Defendant’s insurer Privilege commented: “This was a complex injury case and we are happy that we have reached an amicable agreement with the claimant’s legal team for an appropriate settlement.”

The story has been widely published in the local and national media.
